Rock club Tavastia Protects the Old Forest
In 2020, Tavastia, one of Europe’s oldest still-operating rock clubs, launched the Tavastia Hall of Nature fundraising campaign in collaboration with the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The goal was to protect valuable Finnish forest. According to Tavastia, the corporate responsibility of a culturally significant venue extends beyond everyday environmental actions to activities outside the venue’s walls.
In spring 2021, Tavastia introduced an environmental ticket alongside the regular ticket type, which can be purchased for all concerts, with three euros from each ticket donated in full to the Tavastia’s forest campaign. In October 2024, Tavastia and the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation made their first joint forest protection purchase near Hämeenlinna, by Lake Sotkajärvi.
At the beginning of 2025, Tavastia initiated a project to build the EcoCompass environmental management system and apply for certification. Sustainability planning is currently underway, and, for example, all meals provided to Tavastia’s staff and performing artists are primarily vegetarian. Tavastia’s environmental actions have been partly supported by a thesis from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, titled Tavastia Hall of Nature 2020–2021 as a Starter for More Sustainable Operations.
